Fender Bender_dup1
Reading the list of 150 posts below its obvious that many of the candidates are not in the UNSUNG category I.E have sold plenty records & been on big tours If you want a guy who's an absolute original and virtuoso , has influenced many players who have sold millions and generated massive bucks .. e.g Page , Neil Young , Dylan but who himself has only cult status .. think about Bert Jansch Listen too Needle of Death from 1965 and know where Neil Young found Needle and the Damage Done.. Bert Jansch is the finest acoustic guitar player I have ever heard by a country folk blues mile. & he has been a virtual unkown in the US since his self titled debut appeared 40 odd years ago. NOW THAT IS WHAT I CALL UNSUNG Give me a break!
Caevan O’Shite
Yeah, I've heard of him, but I don't think that I've ever really heard him. One of those I've-really-gotta-check-him-out-someday names. I haven't even looked (lurked?) over that "unsung" thread. Is it worth it? Funk Jazz
Bert's work with the Pentangle is amazing. John Renbourn, the second guitarist for Pentangle, ain't no slouch either.
sgstrat
Oh my God, somebody besides me mentions Bert Jansch in a post on the internet! I've been a fan of Bert's since before Pentangle, around '66 I guess. A great, great guitarist, excellent songwriter and one of the best "bad" singers around. Anyone else ever notice how Led Zeppelin's "Black Mountain Side" is a crib of Jansch's version of the traditional "Black Waterside"?

But about BJ, I'm not really familiar with his work other than Pentangle (a sort of acoustic-oriented Fairport Convention---FC remind me of the Who playing folk music ) but what I heard of them was very good! sgstrat
If you're not familiar with Bert Jansch's solo work probably the best introduction is "Dazzling Stranger:The Bert Jansch Anthology". It samples his recordings throughout his career, from 1965 to 2000. From there you can choose which of his recordings you might want to get. You might also want to check out his website at: http://www.bertjansch.com Have fun! Stephen
