Actually, never mind. It just occured to me the easiest thing to do would be just to play back the scratch tracks on minidisc as a sync track, monitor off of that while tracking it, and just leave the machine running and cut and paste later. Sorry, move along, these aren't the droids you're looking for.

I do that sort of workaround all the time. But as far as the original question, wouldn't it be easier to hook up a 2nd keyboard and monitor to your audio computer? Not sure what your computer is though, or how far away the other room is. A midi keyboard or unused drum machine can control your DAW, too (I'm going to suggest that in as many threads as I can until someone does it :freak: :p )

back to your original thought.... a networked pc You COULD use software like WinVNC link here to allow you to control your recording PC from the next room - you can use just about any computer to control just about any other computer - Mac, Windows, Linux, Unix, etc. All you need is another computer and a network connection between the two. Oh BTW, WinVNC is free.

I can vouch for WinVNC. It's developed by AT&T Labs in England under the GNU policy - meaning it's free. We've been using it at work for over a year and the only problems we've seen are on machines that also have Microsoft Visual Studio installed on them - VNC would crash or the machine would. It's a great program. Oh, another thing which is minor, when you're remotely viewing the other machine and you have Internet Explorer scrolling, most of the times you have to request a screen refresh to see the new scrolled area. It's smooth and it's fast. You only have to install the program on the machine you want to control remotely. It can run as a Windows service and set up to start automatically. On the machine you want to control from, you can just run the VNC Viewer app which is a standalone executable (no installation necessary - no dlls copied, no changed in registry, etc.).

Well, my parents own a store in an australian automotive chain, and head office's computer technicians rely on it to fix any problems remotely with the server. All they have to do is dial up our server and enter a password and they can fix just about anything. As far as I'm aware, no problems with it.
