b3kys
Has anyone read Paul Rinzlers book on Quartal Jazz Piano Voicings.
sean8877
I've got that book but I didn't find it very useful. He shows alot of the possible quartal voicings but doesn't really give any explanations as to how they should be used or show a context for the voicings (in a song). It could be that it's intended for someone at a more advanced level than me though (or maybe I'm a little slow).
b3kys
Has anyone read frank mantooth's Voicings for Jazz Keyboard?
Urbanaut
I would go with Mantooths book over Rinzlers. I've read them both and I found Rinzlers lacking very much on the explanation side of things. Mantooths book also goes into basic dominant upper structures and some other topics as well. Good stuff. May he rest in peace.
sudeep
also i think franks book has a section on quartal voicings at the end.
Fulc
You might also want to give a look in to 20th Century Harmony: Creative Aspects and Practice by Vincent Persichetti. He discusses various strategies for building chords, including quartal, secundal, and compound methodologies. It's a mind-blower. The Womb
