b3kys
Hello, I know that there are journals for medicine, psychology, etc. where professionals in their respective fields can publish ideas etc. Is there such a thing for music? A journal where music theorists have their ideas published?

Sven Golly
Not sure if it fits in with your views, but The Computer Music Journal might be of interest. Quote from http://mitpress2.mit.edu/e-journals/Computer-Music-Journal/about-cmj.html : Published continuously since 1977, Computer Music Journal (CMJ) is a quarterly journal that covers a wide range of topics related to digital audio signal processing and electroacoustic music. It is published (in hard copy and on-line) by MIT Press. The topics addressed in Computer Music Journal include: software and hardware for digital audio signal processing; electroacoustic, electronic, and computer music; software for music notation, printing, and archival systems; music representation languages and music cognition; new physical performance interfaces; sound localization and 3-D sound spatialization; sound in computer user interfaces and virtual realities; aesthetics of contemporary music, and other areas. Each issue of Computer Music Journal is between 80 and 128 pages long and includes: Editor's Notes, letters, and discussions of recent topics; news and announcements relevant to the computer music community; four or more feature articles--technical or aesthetical essays, tutorials, surveys, or interviews; eight or more reviews of events, recordings, publications, and products; and extensive new product announcements. The editors of Computer Music Journal also produce an annual music disc (CD or DVD) with curated music and sound examples related to Journal articles. These have been included with the CMJ subscription since 1998. Earlier CDs are available separately.

Ben One
The Acoustical Society of America meetings have a lot of music stuff. As disclosure, I publicize the meetings to the news media and the general public. We invite the authors to write lay-language descriptions of their technical meeting papers. Just to provide an example, one well-written recent laypaper is: What Are the Differences Between Amateur and Professional Choirs? In addition to the meetings, there is the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America which is included in the list to which Larry links.
