synthetic
Does anyone here know about a brand of piano called Starck? I believe it's from the 1930's. I'm wondering if it's a good piano worth restoring or not so much.
DanS
I've got one from 1956, 4'-11". (see avatar) Mine's pretty good, but gets a little funky with temp/humidity changes. Have it evaluated. "Starck" right? What we record in life, echoes in eternity. poly
The PA Starck Co was out of Chicago. Grands were made from 1917-1939. If you post a serial number, I can date it for you. Poly the piano tuner SONIC MUSIC http://sonicmusic.net
poly
Oh, one other thing. Grands may bear an upright serial number after 1939. The company stopped making pianos in 1968. Poly SONIC MUSIC http://sonicmusic.net

synthetic
Where would the serial number be? It's with my Mother-in-law, and she couldn't find it.
DanS
Its probably down at the end on the left hand side on the soundboard. She may need help opening the lid & holding it while locating the number. What we record in life, echoes in eternity. Jake Johnson
Jerry Lee Lewis learned to play on a Stark: http://oldies.about.com/od/rockabill1/f/jerryleecousins.htm And Stark made a very good piano that never caught on. My parents have an upright, and it sounds great: not a huge sounding instrument. Doesn't react well to pounding, despite the Jerry Lee Lewis history. Very subtle instument. If it has no monetary value and you don't want to keep it, I hope you'll find it a good home.
synthetic
It appears that the serial number is 73623. According to this page, it sounds like the piano was manufactured between 1921 and 1925. I'm thinking about buying the Larry Fine book to find out more about the piano and what it's worth. Thanks for your help.
