TrancedelicBlues
It's called Beatrix I've been wanting to move over to Linux for a while. This thing tipped the balance for me. It certainly sounds like this guy knows his stuff. I'll let y'all know when I have actually tried this thing...
analogman1
Hey "Trance", I'm not familiar with Linux, though I've heard it mentioned a lot. Is it an OS like Windows or Mac OS? Can it be run on either machine? How stable is it for music production? Thanks! Tom Tom Nord Electro 5D, Modal Cobalt 8, Yamaha upright piano, numerous plug-ins... Dave Pierce
Linux is an operating system that runs mainly on Intel-architecture hardware (ie, PC's). It is based on the UNIX operating system that IT people have used in data centers for decades. I myself am a UNIX bigot in my day job, and over the last five years I've become a Linux convert. It is extremely stable for server applications. You'll find that most high-volume web sites run Linux, for example. On the other hand, the learning curve is quite steep -- it can be quite difficult to get a Linux system running properly for the first time. While there are some DAW systems for Linux, they are probably best used by a hobbyist willing to invest significant time into getting them running properly. Personally, I would not run an audio system on Linux, despite my extensively familiarity with the OS. I'd rather use something with a large commercial user base. Here's a good article on Linux: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux --Dave Make my funk the P-funk. I wants to get funked up. TrancedelicBlues
What Dave said. I wouldn't try to put a system together myself but this package, put together by some Linux boffins, looks very interesting to me and I plan to give it a try.
