While those were likely done on an Arp, any analog or VA (or rompler, for that matter) with a delay can do that stuff well. Back when I used to do this song I still had only a Casio WK1500 atop the Hammond. Simply ran the Casio thru a digital delay and voila....

I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist.

This ain't no track meet; this is football.

My guitar & keyboard teacher told me (a couple of years ago) that the guy who did the keyboard on that recording lives here in the Tri-Cities (Tennessee) area, I think in Kingsport, and did it by mailing disks. I've forgotten his name. Wish I'd seen this earlier, because I was just at a lesson tonight. I'll see if I can find out more in a few days.

Ummm... okay... I'll bite. Exactly what kind of 'disks' would he be mailing in 1976?:rolleyes:

(The Hammond player on that album was Joachim Jymm Young, incidentally. Is that the person your teacher mentioned? The synthesizer tracks are all credited to Steve Miller himself...)

Cheers,

Going by Allmusic.com, the album credits explicitly state Steve as playing "Roland Synthesizer" (as well as just "Synthesizer" ... not sure which one, or on what track(s).

Haven't found much useful info via Google yet, either. Not enough Steve Miller Band fans putting up web pages... ;)

Guess it'd've had to be tapes. I wasn't there, just passing on what I was told, which could be in error. Don't know about the name, I'm bad with names. Happen to know where he lives? Around Kingsport, Tennessee, perhaps? He just told me the guy in question played the "keyboard part" on that recording, so it sounds like that'd be the organ. I'll see my teacher again in a few days and ask for a fuller explanation.
