Dave The Rave
I just got back from a Joe Satriani concert at the Filmore in San Francisco. It was a great evening's entertainment - he's one heck of a guitar player. His ability to use the whammy bar to make his guitar sound like a synthesiser was weird and wonderful. Does anyone know exactly how he gets that sound? :DTR Cambrian Guitars
Jeebus
You said it yourself, he uses his whammy bar. Got an mp3 clip to let us hear what it sounds like?
c4
he uses the digitech whammy pedal alot for really high pitch shifts...
b3keys
He also uses a Korg Karma keyboard and triggers a lot of background sounds from it.
Tusker
It's a pinch harmonic, I thought. Not much fundamental as a result. The waveform is clipped so it sounds like a squarewave. A synthesist would high pass filter a squarewave and waveshape/distort it to get a similar result. Joe, just touches his guitar string in the right place to get that.
