Saint Johnny B
I'm wonderin if anyone makes a special keyboard strip or rack module just for keyboards. We've been think the following signal chian may be cool: source-->preamp-->eq--->optical compressor-->make-up gain-->eq--->brickwall limiter--->output If anyone knows of anything like this I'd appreciate hearing about it. Thanks
eric
I saw "strip" and "rack" in the same sentence and thought I'd stumbled across one of those peep show sites I think this was explored in a previous posting: Keyboard Player in trouble The general complaint was a lack of dynamics and overdriving the volume. Sounds like your technical solution may be a compressor or possibly to use a piano like a Yamaha CP80 that depends on amplified strings for sound. This problem is really a technique thing and I'm not sure that any gear will truly solve this. Good luck! Regards, Eric
Saint Johnny B
Yeah Ok, but forget about my problem player for a minute. Does anyone actually make a channel strip or rack module that is tailored to keyboards? Sounds like it'd be a great product to have.
Krakit
The strip that you describe doesn't sound tailored to keyboards in my opinion. Sounds more like tailored to your "pounder" guy. I wouldn't need or desire the module you describe. Carl
Saint Johnny B
So lemme see...you would never, ever find any use under any circumstances for a rack unit channel strip that had fairly standard features but had a brickwall limter built in. I would use this every day on everything, guitar, voice, you name it. Esp with a Joe Meek style opto circuit!!!
Krakit
Correct me if I am wrong, but you stipulated that you wanted "a strip just for keyboards". If you would use this thing for "everything" then it doesn't sound like it's "just for keyboards". Of course I use outboard effects when I record. I use them on "everything". However, as a keyboard player, I wouldn't use any of those things going out over a PA system. Carl
6 stringer
I'd buy one in a New York second. I might use it for other things too. If you find something like this, please post the info.
