not Cereal Posted December 2, 2002 Posted December 2, 2002 ok so the no-attack-hi-hat brigade has hit the scene for a while. why must most music imitate KORN in putting the HIHAT on top of the mix, especially with NO ATTACK. the hihat just SLIDES IN. hmmmmph
The Studio Pet-Rock Posted December 2, 2002 Posted December 2, 2002 Hmm. Because Korn sold a few albums, so now everyone wants to sound Korn-y?
where02190 Posted December 2, 2002 Posted December 2, 2002 this is in no means hi hat defense, but back in the Ted Templeman days of Van Halen, it was hi hat city on those records/CD's. Given that was also early in the birth of CD technology, it was even more painful.... Hope this is helpful. NP Recording Studios Analog approach to digital recording.
Bunny Knutson Posted December 2, 2002 Posted December 2, 2002 When you have loud distorted guitars blasting out of the speakers, the average listener needs to hear the hi hat to follow the meter of the song, kind of like a click track. In that kind of mix, if you attenuate the hat, things tend to get too sloshy and undefined. I can't address the "attack" issue. I haven't noticed that. I'll listen harder to KoRn next time I hear them on the radio. https://bunny.bandcamp.com/ https://theystolemycrayon.bandcamp.com/
Wow Posted December 2, 2002 Posted December 2, 2002 I love korn on the cobb, it goes well with a little hihat and mustard. :freak:
