why is the hihat on top

ok so the no-attack-hi-hat brigade has hit the scene for a while. why must most music imitate KORN in putting the HIHAT on top of the mix, especially with NO ATTACK. the hihat just SLIDES IN. hmmmmph

this is in no means hi hat defense, but back in the Ted Templeman days of Van Halen, it was hi hat city on those records/CD's. Given that was also early in the birth of CD technology, it was even more painful....

When you have loud distorted guitars blasting out of the speakers, the average listener needs to hear the hi hat to follow the meter of the song, kind of like a click track. In that kind of mix, if you attenuate the hat, things tend to get too sloshy and undefined. I can't address the "attack" issue. I haven't noticed that. I'll listen harder to KoRn next time I hear them on the radio.

uh ha ha ha ha; wait a minute i am the smartass around here. sure the mere mention of korn brings up trolling and spakk but cannot thou hearest thine graven influence of korn upon the very foundation of modern pop music? huh? cannest thou? ak?
