Oh yeah, I've got oddmusic bookmarked :thu: They've added a lot of stuff recently. I hadn't seen the Hyper Sax, and I spent hours recently looking for mods or bends to the casio midi horn. Not much info on it at oddmusic, but it is a lead. And I'll throw out Rathole wind-controlled synthesis anti-theory Experimental Musical Instruments Experimental Musical Instruments links page :thu:

Really interesting stuff! Thanks for the lead, man. However, "Darwin Christmas 1974" sounded a lot like my electric beard trimmer... Whitefang
I started out with NOTHING...and I still have most of it left!

Here's an odd one, called a Nuttar (after the creator) It's made from a cigar box and some old banjo strings. I'm not even sure of the tuning, but it sure sounded kewl on the tune we used it on!!!!!

Hope this is helpful.

Cool site! This is my 1920's Banjolin bought from Gruhn Guitar in Nashville. As the name suggests, it is a mandolin of banjo style construction. Plays like a mandolin.. only bad. Gruhn informed me they couldn't find an appropriate replacement head for it. Anyone know any custom banjo-head manufacturers? (It's ok, right now. Eventually the head will disintegrate, though.)

Thanks, Brakka. I think the craftsmen at Gruhn would've checked out all the standard drum heads, but I'll have to look into it anyway. (The instrument cost me $125, 6 or 7 years ago. They didn't want to put any money into more repairs. Remember, their average instrument costs several thousand dollars, vintage or new.)

Your old head looks like calfskin from here (no, I'm not flirting :o ). If you have a local world-drum type shop (with congas, percussion, lessons, etc), they can put a new calf head on your old hoop.
