darthdork
I am lloking for a way to amplify my keyboards in a public forum (club etc) without comprimising the integrity of the signal coming off the keyboards themselves. I play a Moog, Nord L2, Triton, Wurlitzer and a Rhodes. Any suggestions, products that you recomend etc?

If no compromise is your goal, then I would say a good mixer, power amp, and pa speakers would be the best bet. For instance, Mackie 1402, Bryston 4B, and a pair of Bag Ends. On the other hand, if you need to save money, time, and your back, you could get one or two Roland KC300's, or Barbetta's. In the middle would be a mixer plus powered speakers like Mackie SRM450's, or JBL Eons.
cg1155
It's just my opinion but I think that unless you go up to way way expensive cabinets, the powered speakers usually sound much better than non powered + amp. -Casey
Postman
I'm using a Barbetta Sona 32c. I think it sounds great. They're about $500 or so each.
Tedly Nightshade
Basically you want tons and tons of clean headroom, clarity and power. Ain't cheap. A couple Meyer UPM-1P's and a sub does a nice job! So does an old Ampeg V4 through an exceptional cabinet or two. Low B makes some very suitable cabs. A 1000 watt power amp through a Low B cab or two is the cheapest way in to sound that really doesn't butcher your keys. Difficult instrument to amplify, lots of opportunity for clipping on quick transients. Ted A WOP BOP A LU BOP, A LOP BAM BOOM! "There is nothing I regret so much as my good behavior. Superbobus
This is how I do it. I'm in the lucky situation that my pop band has a P.A. with everything to it. When I play small clubs with other bands I use a Line6 POD for my Rhodes and a Craaft PL12/2 MFA powered speaker for my Rhodes and synth. Two of 'em would be even better but ohhh, the size and weight! Great speaker and with the POD my Rhodes gets that Herbie sound. http://www.bobwijnen.nl Hipness is not a state of mind, it's a fact of life. coyote
Here's what I do... any sounds which I want to play 'clean' go straight to the PA. This typically includes pianos & strings. Other sounds - synth, Hammond, Clav - anything which can benefit from a bit of "warming up" runs thru a Marshall Major 200w head & 4x12 cabinet. I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist. This ain't no track meet; this is football.
