Doctor Frankensteinway
Mine was. Years ago. During a time of personal crisis. Was spending only a scant couple hours a week in among the keyboards. The great Hammond C-2 was collecting dust. Racks of gear sitting idle. Most of the analogue synths sitting in their cases, wasting away. Whenever I would come back home to the studio, it would be as if I had walked into a keyboard warehouse somewhere. And that is no way for instruments to be treated. So Igor and I, with much reluctance and evenings full of tearful farewells, sold a lot of the old gear. Some were painful to lose. Others I had forgotten about. But you know what? now I feel so much better. Yeah, from time to time I kick myself for once having so-and-so keyboard. But I find the new gear gives me about 95% of those great sounds. My life is simpler. Besides, who can afford the upkeep? And talk about old cmos chips!! Hard to find in the first place, all of them eventually burning out or disintegrating! So yeah, it was painful but today I feel as though I have more freedom. Any one else feel like they have more of a warehouse than a studio? Oh yeah? That's fine for you, you're an accepted member of the entertainment community. What about me? What about Igor? Marginalized by Hollywood yet again. I want my Mummy . . .
Punchmo
Yep, I got a warehouse. But, my bottom line is, for what I paid for some of this shit and what's it's worth now, I'll keep it...not gonna give it away http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/mad.gif Maybe some of it will come back like the MiniMoog and Hammond http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif after software simulators replace everything http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I did try to sell my Mini in the early 80's and the best offer I had was $100.00! Glad I kept it... Steve
dexternyc
oh yeah! i KNOW what you mean!! just moved into a 10' by 15' control room in manhattan. apart from the real "studio" stuff-you know, desk, racks, monitors, etc etc i had to squeeze in all the things i can't part with: -rhodes88 suitcase -clavinet D6 -memorymoog -minimoog D -tube wurlitzer -roland A70 -sequential 6 track -roland dj70 try as i might though i can't fit my 56 b3 with 2 leslie 122s...... i have lots of the software synths, and i can appreciate how cool they're getting. but i don't LOVE them, know what i mean? people say we're crazy but they just don't understand! danielmm
If you have a classic on your hands..... don't sell it no matter how much dust it's collecting. I considered selling my Oberheim Xpander in the early 90's for cheap, cheap, cheap..... I kept it, still use it and everyone wants it now. Sell your crap, by all means... just don't part with a legend if you plan to continue on playing cause you will kick yourself all the way to the grave if you do!!!! dano
coyote
I hope never to reach that point. All the gear I have is set up & ready to be used. And unless I run into some amazing deals on classic instruments, that's the way it will stay.... if I can't make the music I want w/ the gear I have the deficiency is in ME. In the future I might add a sequencer or a drum machine so I don't have to always play live drums (they're a bit loud for my wife's ears), but that's it. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist. This ain't no track meet; this is football.
