Guest
I have an older 60 with the Roger Linn upgrade. It's good for drum programming, drum/hit sampling. You can put together a Dance groove very quickly. It has no loop parameter which is major downfall to it's usability. Crossfade loops are good for ambient sounds, strings, or crash cymbals. You can make a happening House/Dance arrangement with just this but it will sound old school. Also, the sequencer is limited only being 96ppq. One great sequencer feature is you can combine patterns to make a song and then change the entire song into a long sequence so when you edit it effects the whole song. Saves time. It has stereo outs plus 8 indiv. outputs. This gives you major control over your mix. Also, for some reason, when you have an instrument plugged into the sample jack with the monitor switch on you can hear it even while playing the sequence. Instant jam. The 2000 models have a loop parameter and compress/expand.
surfjunkie
the mpc's are great for beat chopping- cutting up a recording of drums (quarter notes work great) and sequencing the parts. playing/programming with the mpc's pads is easy and pretty damn fun. here's the tip though- search these forums. there's a lot of useful stuff here regarding the MPCs, esp MPER.
