Dave Bryce
As many of you know, we are attempting to compile a CD's worth of material submitted by members of this forum. In order to do this, we have posted the entries for consideration and evaluation by all of the members of the forum, whether or not they have contributed a piece. The entries can be found at this web site: http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/261/the_keyboard_corner.html Please go there, and evaluate the piece called "The Blue Light is Back", submitted by Jeff Laity (Synthetic). Please post your comments on that tune in this thread. This link will take you directly to this piece. If the artist of the piece would care to post any notes about the piece in this thread, they should feel free to do so. Llarion
Mmmmm, Nice 6/4 groove... I love the purity of the lead patch. Dig the ii-V circle of fifths chordal chicanery! Very deft and artful. The arpeggiation running down the right channel is just what the doctor ordered. This is one of the nicest pieces of pure songwriting in the group this far. The drums and acoustic piano coming in to fatten and warm things is a wonderful touch. VERY enjoyable piece, one of my favorites of the group!!! ------------------ Cheers! dansouth
Analog is good. Nice mix and arrangement, very clean. I like the way the rhythm part swings. Nicely executed lead line. Good all around. Does K-Mart sell Andromedas?

Not yet...but I hear she's being retrofitted for a turntable http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif I'm guessing that the line in Jeff's description of the tune (and the name) about the blue light is because Andromeda has a big, very bright blue light on the back panel by the power switch. We put it there so you can tell what synth it is from a really long way away. Of course, I could be wrong...jl? dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <== Professional Affiliations: Royer Labs • Music Player Network

Instantly made me think Mike MacDonald - Minute By Minute. That's a compliment. Do I hear Major 7ths in the chorus & bridge? They are one of my faves, not used much these days, & they should be. Nicely recorded, the Andromeda sounds fat & warm. What's with this K-mart thing. The tune doesn't make me picture Martha Stewart. . . Is the Andromeda doing the lead sound? synthetic
Thanks for the feedback. Yes, the title was based on the blue light on the back of the Andromeda and the K-Mart billboards all over town. The first verse of the piece is all Andy, except for the drums. Other synths used include Alesis QS8 and S4 Plus, Korg Wavestation and Roland S-760. Yes you hear Major 7ths all through the piece - I can't play a chord anymore without sticking a 7th or 9th in there. Thanks again for your kind reviews. -jl
Llarion
Yeah, I'm an extended chord junkie too... I can't remember the last time I played a straight triad. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif ------------------ Cheers! Steve LeBlanc
Nice melody, simple yet effective...I like the way the bass is kinda chugging along underneath the sparse drums and chord pattern...great feel. Nice soloing over the bridge section. http://www.youtube.com/notesleb

Tusker
Better late than never. I finally got a chance to download and listen to the cd compilation tunes this weekend. It was pretty awe inspiring. I am still on a high about the great talent we have rubbing shoulders here. Very cool. Nice melody over an oh so cool 6 beat vibe. Nice lead synth work, bends and all. Very pleasant tune to listen to. Cheers, Jerry ------------------ www.tuskerfort.com
