Homemade gear..Kits?

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any info on some cool Pro audio Kits. I know of a couple for Pre's. I am looking to build a a tube EQ, Tube compressor or even another tube Pre. Actually what I REALLY want is a kit or schematic for a condensor mic. I scoured the web to no avail. I still use my "tube fuzz" and metronome that I built about 5 years ago from Criags book 'Electronic projects for musicians" Thanks Craig. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/cool.gif

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers

Well, you can build a LA-2 (tube compressor/limiter) at home:

I don't trust myself with a soldering gun and $600 of parts, though... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Along a similar line... Does anyone know where you can get instructions for creating an E-bow-like device? I'd think those little buggers would be pretty easy to make, although I can't justify spending $80 on a real one, since I don't know how much I'd actually use it.

go to tapeop.com and find the back issues section. in the march/april 2000 issue, there is an article devoted to building your own, battery powered, electret microphones.

they only put a teaser of the article on the web page. you can order the issue for $3.50. (although, if you don't tell anyone, i'll fax the article to you for free. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif)

they'll look homemade, but so does the MM-2000 "mag-mic" by innertube audio ! that mic sounds fantastic. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hey Synaes,

That would be great if you would fax that article. I just read partial article Tapeop. The fax # is 805-962-3844. That would truly be cool and very appreciated.

Thanks again.

Cheers.

Popmusic,

No this isn't a joke...a vibrator will do about the same thing an ebow will. Daniel Ash has used one for years, but is an avid ebow user as well and now has moved more to Fernandes Sustainer pick ups. Believe me though, BUY the ebow, you will not regret it. I'm on my 3rd one now seeing as at many gigs over the years apparently other guitarists liked them enough to borrow mine and forget to return them (that's as nice as I can phrase that statement) The ebow is just a battery powered magnet that creates a string vibration verses a pick to create sound.
