Nah - not a bit, mah brutha. He'll live...until I get him in the sports bar on Sunday for Game 3. Then he'll learn how it's done in Chilladelph up close and personal.

Thanks for the slam-dunk! Definitely one for the highlight film...

Might be the only slam-dunk the sixers get. It ain't gonna be pretty when the Lakers get done with them.

Ain't over till it's over. I'm just happy that after 7" of rain in the last 48 hours (and another 5" forcasted for today) the puddles are nowhere near coming to the studio.

Not that this is a surprise, but the Sixers sure looked awfully good yesterday, especially on defense. Iverson and Mutombo are always good...

Good to have you on the Philly side, Dr. Workz!

That thread is getting to be quite some fun...actually, it has been since it started. Nothing like a sporting event to start a good flame war...

I don't think anything that Philly has done during these playoffs can be easily explained.

Therefore, I see them winning this series in 7 games.

Well, like Dave, I'm a transplant to L.A. who still roots for my old home team. Since the Suns were also rans this year, I was just looking for an exciting series. Looks like I'm getting my wish!

BTW, I got to attend The Greatest Game Ever Played twenty-five years ago when the Celtics beat the Suns in triple-overtime in Phoenix during the 1976 NBA Finals. It was a present for my graduation from high school. Too bad it didnt go the way I wanted it to, but it gave me some cool bragging rights...kind of like when I saw Peter Gabriels last tour with Genesis, "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" the year before. Eat your heart out! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif

Oh yeah, Ive got to add this: Phoenix doesnt make the finals often, but they usually provide excitement when they do. They had another triple-overtime game in the 1993 finals against the Bulls. Okay, enough about the Suns...

Enthusiasm powers the world.

Stomping? http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Come now...winning, yes. Stomping.....no. The Sixers were certainly in it until the last two minutes.

After all of the trash talk from the Sixers fans, I figure anything other than a win by 10 is a stomping. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

The Lakers barely squeezed out a win with home court atvantage in a must-win situation. Stomping? I dunno, JW, maybe you were too busy inflating those women to pay attention to what was going on in the game. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Red wine with shrimp and pasta??!!! I thought you said "perfect evening." http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Say what you want. The Lakers won again.

And you always need the red wine with my shrimp. The white stuff doesn't hold up to the cayenne. Don't you yankees know how to cook? Ya'll probably don't suck crawfish heads either http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Inflatable women? That sounds like a philly thang.

C'mon, jw - it was a great game. You were holding your breath at the end just like all of us. Admit it...come on...

Three out of three killer games. LIke I said in the hoops thread down in my forum - so far this is one of the best final series that I can ever remember seeing. It's been unbelievably entertaining.

First off, JW, we've had Cajun-Creole cuisine here in Chilly at least sinced I first moved into town from the sticks when I was 19, and probably long before that. Blackened redfish, Anduille sausage and duck jambalaya, fried catfish with rock shrimp succatash...stop by my crib some time and I'll cook that stuff up for ya while you're setting up a mix. Here's a tip: ya don't use a red wine to harmonize with the cayenne shrimp, you need a rich white, like a Vouvray. Red wine crashes into cayenne and makes a mess. A good Vouvray will turn the hottest blackened fish into sweet buttery extasy. Mmmm... now I'm gettin' hungry!

Now I'll address the issue of yanks sucking crawfish heads. For the most part, you're right: up here most folks go "yuck" when they see heads on fish, UNLESS you're in Chinatown or Little Italy, where prawns are served whole, and heads are sucked. As far as I know, Cafe Nola, Zanzibar Blue, Warmdaddy's, Jamaican Jerk Hut, Cuba De Libre and the rest of that culinary demographic here in town still serve crawfish with heads intact, but the heads probably don't get sucked as consistently due to the tourist and amatuer presence in those types of houses.

As for the hoops, thank David Bryce for sucking me into the Sixers-Lakers debate. I have locked myself in my studio as of late, refusing to leave except to replenish food and beer supplies, or the occasional bicycle trip to stay fit and get some sun. Yes, the games are on (sound muted), and between tracking and mixing and endlessly tweaking arrangements, lyrics, beats, etc...I check the score, or stop and watch what the matchup is like to get a very general idea of what the strengths and weaknesses are of each team. If Philly wasn't in it, though, I assure you I would be paying absolutely zero attention. It's just that Illad3lphia is really live these days, and this is just the latest thing stoking the fire and it's kinda infectuous, so I'm kinda paying attention.

As far as I can see, there is only one factor that's keeping the Sixers from sweeping the Lakers, and that is a lack of poise in the closing minutes of the games. Their scoring percentage plummets in the final 3 minutes, and I attribute that to a comparitive lack of playoff experience. If the Sixers were to solve that, they would be sweeping the Lakers. The Lakers are doing what they've always done and are not hobbled by any key injuries, and they're squeaking by in the closing seconds. The Lakers have more depth, more experience, the best coach in the league, Shaq, the money and clout that comes from being a big market team, and Philly keeps knocking on their door right down to the wire. But we've got to put the ball in the net in those closing minutes. That's the only thing that's missing.

It'll be interesting to see what happens next season. On the one hand, the Lakers will most likely lose Kobe Bryant, whose contract is up. He will want more money, and he will want to get out from under Shaq's shadow and be the star, and LA won't be able to give him both and stay under the salary cap. New York will dump...who's that guy who choked PJ Carlissimo? They'll dump him 'cause he's fading, and a couple of other guys and make room under the salary cap to sign Bryant. Don't be surprised if you see Rick Fox make a move for bigger $$$ as well. Next year's Lakers may not be the powerhouse that this year's and last year's Lakers have been.

On the other hand, Coach Brown may not return with the Sixers next year, so team president Pat Croce will have that to contend with. If you've ever met Pat (I have), you wouldn't worry, but it's still a factor. But, the Sixers have an opportunity to enhance their lineup in the draft. No one will be looking to leave the Sixers, and a lot of good players from the draft and around the league will want to come on board this wonderful team in this fantastic town. Plus, they'll have the confidence that this spectacular Sixers season has given them. Next year's Sixers will be seasoned and ready to dominate.

The preceeding comments do not necassarily reflect the views of MusicPlayer forums or their audiences...

Great series. Saw the third game, and continue to be impressed by Philadelphia (and yes, I am a Lakers fan, but so what? The 76ers are a great team). They've looked good all season. The Lakers have not been playing their strongest ball against the 76ers, especially in the first game. Some of it is from having ten days off, and some of it is from the incredible defense that the 76ers have. Obviously, I hope that the Lakers win, but I have maximum respect for the 76ers, and feel that they are every bit a championship team, regardless of the outcome.

Before the actual series began, I guessed (I hesitate in using the word "predicted"!) that the Lakers would win in 5, losing the first game. We'll see if that holds or not!!! The way the 76ers are playing, it may go to six, but I'll hold to the Lakers in 5 just the same...
