Calling all Mandrake Memorial Ex-Band members

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Well, I can bet that Mr. Anderton will see this message and hopefully reply....

I just wanted to thank you for the sounds on the 3 Mandrake Memorial albums, as a 60's psych collector, of course these are primo albums to have in your collection, and the musicianship and innovation are great!

I saw your name show up from time to time in my music magazines, and when I visited here, surprise, there you are: keep on rocking, and thanks for continuing to make music interesting!

"The Band That Refuses to Die..."

Man, over 30 years later, and I'm still getting comments about Mandrake! Thanks for remembering. A few items of note...

o All three albums were re-released on CD by Collectibles Records. "Puzzle" also has the single ("Musical Man"/"Something in the Air") as bonus tracks.

o I was not involved in the remastering of the CDs, which upset me no end ("well gee, we're too far along to change things now..."). But I did my own remastering of many of the tunes and put together a "greatest hits" CD, Kevin (the drummer) and I came up with the order. I plan to release it soon, when my web site actually wakes up and does some e-commerce.

o I produced a CD by Michael Kac (the keyboard player) and Philadelphia classical guitarist Linda Cohen in Minneapolis a couple years back. Michael plays harpsichord, it's pretty cool stuff. They have a web site at http://www.kac-cohen.com with a few audio examples.

o There is absolutely zero chance whatsoever that we will do any kind of reunion concert or new recordings, nor are there any old materials in a state suitable for release. What's on the three CDs is very likely all there will ever be, unless I can get ahold of the 8 track tapes that were recorded when we played Carnegie Hall.

Hi Craig,

Yeah, well, I have to say they are some of the better material to come out of the sixties! What I'm curious about is what your live 'gigs' were like back then, care to comment?

Cool - thanks for letting me know about the bonus!

Yeah, now that does sound a bit odd ---- leaving out one of the innovators from the band --- hmmm... I have all the LP's on vinyl, perhaps I'll check out Puzzle to hear the bonus tracks.

But I did my own remastering of many of the tunes and put together a "greatest hits" CD, Kevin (the drummer) and I came up with the order.

Thanks, I'll look forward to that... where is your website at?

Great! I gave it a listen, very nice, I can hear the Mandrake sound in there!!! I'll probably pick up the CD, thanks http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

Highly cool - tell me more about that concert.... is there a chance that the tapes will show up?

Good to hear from you and see you're still involved in music,

Depending on the night, we were either the best or worst band in the universe !

http://www.craiganderton.com. But it's dormant right now, don't expect anything cool.

The tapes are probably sitting in a vault at RCA somewhere...or re-used, you never know. We tried to find them before, to no avail.

More than ever!! Expect a flood of stuff soon, I've been stockpiling material and hope to release several CDs more or less simultaneously to kick the web site into action.

Meanwhile, catch my next big gig with Rei$$dorf Force on August 18th in Cologne, Germany.

And former Linda Cohen sidemen, too?

I love the combination of acoustic instruments with electronic noises/effects. (And album sleeves that represent the *real* greek myths, not the way they're taught in elementary school.)

I run into Linda frequently in the Rittenhouse Square hood, Craig. She still teaches at that little spot on Sansom Street near 21st - The Classical Guitar Store. Small world.
