gaining distance between me and my cpu.

Recommended Posts

im looking for info on getting the monitor and keyboard/mouse farther away from the cpu. anyone seen a device that will do this??? also what is everyone using for HD enclosures. im getting ready to buy 3 more for a total of 4 drives that i need in an external case. i dont need hotswapability. some of those RAID drive cases look sufficient but i cant find any raw. if you could email me in case the post deletes itself before i get a chance to see it this time! sorry to repeat for those that might have answered already.

I did some research on this lately since I had a similar issue and I found:

http://www.datastoragedepot.com/docs/prod.disk.ext.html

http://www.hollyintl.com/scsi.html

http://www.storcase.com/dsilo/default.asp?ml=0

http://www.cablemakers.com/lvdcases.html

http://www.magma.com/

I needed more PCI slots so, I ended up getting the rack mount Magma and a Seagate Cheetah 74GB SCSI Ultra 160 drive.

I think the tower Magmas look like they have move drive space. I could only put two drives in my rack version. The Magma is also Digidesign certified, so I felt like it actually might work and it has been great. The others I can't vouch for - the price seems to vary widely.

No idea on keyboard/mouse extension stuff - I have seen something recently - maybe on Roger's forum seems like he mentioned a product.

and anyone ever tried to hook up two keyboards and mice to a computer at the same time?

im trying to figure out the best way to make a DAW and a MIDI station work together. like sharing a midihub maybe so on one machine you could do all the unisyn editing and sample editing and the other runs the digital audio and possibly where the sequencing data shows up.

anyone got ideads on how to set this kind of thing up??? i can go into more detail of the setup if anybody has ideas.

We us a system by Gefen for extending the video and keyboard of our Protools. It used 2 boxes that are connected by cat 5 cable. We have 2 of them working for dual monitors. It works great. USB has a 15' limit to total distance unless you extend through a hub or just hope it works if you go longer.
