extra trigger ins on TD-8?

i'm wondering why a standard insert cable won't work as a way to squeeze additional pad inputs out of the td-8. isn't a dual trigger pad simply one box with two triggers?

 

seems like you could have the stereo jack go into the td-8 brain, and use two mono jacks on the other end for two pads. but only one of them will give off a trigger.

 

does anyone know how these trigger pads work inside or better yet, if a special cable can be wired to separate the 'head' and the 'rim' trigger?
