Eric Beam
For the last year or so I've been working on ways to get modern drum n bass drum sounds from my acoustic kit.. i used to use triggers but i hate dealing with electronics live.. I've been greatly influenced by artists like squarepusher in the last few years. I'm going for a combination of drum n bass/jazz trip hop sounds. to get that pitched up sound i've converted a 16inch floor tom into a remote kick. i purchased a mounting system from DW that didn't modify my drum at all. I'm using zildjian Remix hats and ride.. the hats are amazing.. i cant live without them. the ride is ok.. i just purchased a 10inch POP Corn snare. i love this thing! i've been trying to get that sound for years... i have some pics of my setup on my site.. the snare isn't shown i just got it. http://rhythminmind.net pic1 http://www.rhythminmind.net/page%203/pics/STUDIO-1.png pic 2 http://www.rhythminmind.net/page%203/pics/kit-4.png "Any experiment of interest in life will be carried out at your own expense." Jeebus
Well I'm not a drummer, but I'm very interested in your kit and I'm curious to hear how it sounds. It's good to see some drummers trying to do something different with their kits and achieve a new sound.
Bunny Knutson
I love playing d'n'b beats on my cheapo kit. I haven't modded anything, but I tuned my snare up really high, and I like to play with Lightning Rods. https://bunny.bandcamp.com/ https://theystolemycrayon.bandcamp.com/
crujones
hey, i am currently using a "hybrid" kit for my band's live set. i use a Kd-7 kick pad(i love the sound of an electronic kick, especially since we play dance) along with extra PD-7 pads in conjuction with my acoustic piccolo snare, rack tom and floor tom. all acoustic drums tuned real HIGH. i also use zildjian re-mix jungle hats and zildjian re-mix crashes...they are great! i have been looking into getting a zildjian breakbeat ride, but i have to hear it and no one stocks it in shops around here. i've been looking for an extra snare, that 10 inch POP CORN snare you have might be what i'm looking for. i agree with you, electronic pads (used for snare, toms and cymbals) just don't cut it live. i hope more manufacturers will get into making acoustic drums suited for electronic music. what you have seems to be the best for what's out there now...here's my band's link, if you are interested: www.brainclaw.com tkae care!
