Maria Samba
What is the most effecient way to hauling congas and percussion equipment to a gig? I have conga bags but was wondering if a dolly would work...?
coyote
Welcome, Maria! A small dolly can work fine for a conga. Just be sure to put it head-down on the dolly as this improves the likelihood it stays on the dolly as you move it. And keep it in the bag til it gets to its destination to avoid damage. I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist. This ain't no track meet; this is football. DrummerCafe
I usually try to carry mine in ... using the straps on the congas bags. If you have a distance to carry them, a dolly will work ... even a flat bed (four wheel) dolly. Just make sure they don't topple over. I transport my with the head down as Coyote mentioned. As a precaution, you might want to strap them to the dolly so the don't topple over. You never know when you might hit a bump or have a door slam on you! My bags have an inch of padding all around the drums, so they are fairly protected. Drummer Cafe - community drum & percussion forum
freelance
I almost always use a dolly (why carry when you can roll). While I always have the dolly in the vehicle (just in case) if the venue has stairs or other things that prohibit the dolly, I'll carry my congas by the shoulder straps. I always use bungee chords when the drums are on the dolly, for the extra security.
