Some questions regarding hats stands:

As I learned from another thread, when playing double kick I have a few options concerning hats:

1: use a clutch mechanism to hold them shut.

2: Use an X-clamp (?) to hold 2nd set of hats on my gibraltar stand, in closed position.

3: Use a complete second stand and hats pair, with a pair of those stands that only have two (rotating) legs.

4: I just thought of a fourth option:

Use a remote stand instead, in conjuntion with a clutch mechanism.

QUESTIONS:

Will my idea #4 work? Can those cluth thangs be mounted on a remote hats stand?

If so, is the Pearl eliminator-remote worth the money, or are there cheaper alternatives that still feel good?

I'm leaning towards option #3, mainly beacuse then only one mic would be needed for both hats when recording. -But those stands are espensive!

Does anyone have an opinion on the Pearl H2000 Eliminator vs the DW 5500TD ?

Which is better, chain or strap?

Last: Someone told me I should be oiling my hats stand. Is this true?

What part?

Oil, grease, or silicone?

Doesn't this get messy?

Will it really rust just sitting in my studio?

The droplock clutch may be used on any hihat stand, provided the diameter of the rod is less than the width of the hole it's supposed to fit in. If the remote hat is mounted at something far from vertical, the clutch might not work as well as you'd like. All the cable-driven remote hats I'm aware of (Pearl, DW, Yamaha etc) are quite pricey.

I prefer chain-drive for my pedals; it feels more solid & direct. Many players prefer strap-drive, especially in recording situations. There is no clear-cut 'better' option.

The old Ludwig & Gretsch stands needed oil. My circa-1985 pedals & stands havee never been oiled, and look & perform exactly as they did when new. Therefore, my guess is that you won't need to oil your gear. Wipe 'em down with a damp cloth every now & then just to keep clean, and the stands will be fine.

I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist.

This ain't no track meet; this is football.
