surfjunkie
hey all my housemate has an old Ludwig kit with TAMA hardware. i'm not a drummer, but the hihat stand doesn't seem quite right. the clamp seems okay (?), but the... cup (??) holding the bottom cymbal isn't a cup. is that an original part? is there a better part he can get to replace it? http://homepage.mac.com/wager/.Pictures/TamaHiHat.jpg any help is appreciated. countrydrummer
The bottom cymbal should be sitting on the felt washer! It looks like the metal washer somehow got out of place. It should be under the felt.
surfjunkie
aha- that does seem better. it still flops around a little, but not like it did. thanks. so, the little screw on the cup (is that the right term? ) is for leveling the hats? it still seems like there's a lot of flop. are there better cups? thanks

djarrett
Hey, Wager 47: Country is correct. There are also some important factors regarding your question of "floppiness." Make sure NO metal part is touching the bottom or top cymbal. The adjustment screw at the bottom is for applying some tilt to the bottom cymbal. This "slight tilt" is what will give the hihat some slight "sizzle" when you are playing them slightly open. Some folks prefer no sizzle and leave the cymbals level. Also, the device on the pole directly below the bottom cymbal that looks like a clamp is a memi-loc. It should be adjusted to down to the proper height of the top of the bottom part of the stand to retain the height setting for you. Hope this helps.
