Can you cover up a band name on the bass drum?

Tape that's the same colour as the bass drum head works well, provided the glue doesn't pull up the paint underneath.

 

Maybe he could hang a towel over the front of the bass drum :)

we used to have to do that in my old band... we woould just either take a big sign and put it in front of the drum so you couldn't see, or just masking tape somethin up there, like a posterboard that has the new name. sure it looks tacky, but that's apart of the charm, eh?! :)

If the Bass drum head is black have your friend get some bright neon printer paper. Print out the band name on the paper and tape it over the drum head name.
