Jazzman
What type of drum heads do you prefer to use for jazz (studio set-ups)? Do you play with both of the top and bottom heads on? djarrett
Most guys that I know that play hard-core jazz ... use a coated ambassador on the top and a clear amb (or diplomat) on bottom. DJ
DrummerCafe
I use the Aquarian Textured Coated drumheads for jazz (as well as other styles). Aquarian also makes several Vintage series drumheads, as well as a Jack DeJohnette signature series drumhead that you might want to check out. Their web site is http://aquariandrumheads.com . The DeJohnette heads are textured coated with a black coating rather than white. This black coating makes the drum sound darker, yet has a very round, full sound. Sounds awesome with brushes too! Aquarians texture coating will last you a long, long time. It doesn't deteriorate like the REMO heads. I can easily say that Aquarian heads last six times longer ... if not more. ------------------ Bart Elliott http://bartelliott.com Drummer Cafe - community drum & percussion forum
mrhappy_dup1
I usually use coated ambasador top and bottom, mainly because I'm used to them and Know what I'll be dealing with, but I'm always up for experimenting when I get the chance. There ars SO friggin' many heads out there these days!!! ------------------ MH MH
felix stein
I've used the DeJohnette head on snare. Very very dry on a walnut gretch I used to have. Like a good champagne. felix's band

Jazzman
Thanks for the input folks, I was out of town for a while, and wanted to answer this thread. Unfortunately, I do have the REMO heads on all of the drums except for the snare. I have a textured head on that drum. The REMO heads don't really appeal to me for studio Jazz work. Bartman, thanks for the link, I also checked out your WEB site... very impressive. Thanks again and keep the faith.........
