djarrett
Hey, Guys: There are great drummers like this all over the place. They prefer to remain regionally known, but do not want huge recognition. I knew lots of these guys when I was at the helm of Slingerland. There was a guy in Florida (I think his name was Dick Cully ... I check that information) and he ran a Buddy Rich tribute band. If you closed your eyes, you would have thought it was Buddy himself! jerry_dup3
I saw those videos and can't believe that a guy can play that fast with that kind of height of the stick. How do these guys get that kind of technique? The same thing with Johnny Rabb.
vinnie c.
They practiced with a lot of disipline and many hours.
steve52
I saw that video, and the height and speed of those sticks is unbelievable. Buddy was good for that. Another guy was Rufus Jones.
vinnie c.
Rufus's sticks wre high but I don't think they were anywhere as fast. This guy plays up there like a fast technition would play at 1 inch.
jerry_dup3
It took me a long time to see those videos and since I got them, I must of played them 50 times and I still can't figure out where his power is coming from.
vinnie c.
The action is coming from the wrists, very simalar to B.R.
steve52
Nobody can move their wrists that high and that fast. It's impossible! This guy and Buddy have some kind of trick or something.
will_dup4
I'm new here. I tried to download those videos and I couldn't get them. My cousin has a cable modem and he let me see the videos. All I can say is that I couldn't believe what I saw on that 1st video. That guy played a tremendous roll that seemed hard to believe. This guy goes around the drums incredidibly. vinnie c.
Steve, Buddy did have some tricks. On one of the Dave Weckl tapes, Dave shows how Buddy did the one handed roll, not by making every stroke but by playing a fast shuffle and straighting it out so it sounds like he's making every stroke. vinnie c.
I think they call this playing dupples. If i'm wrong I wish someone would correct me.
Mark_dup5
Vinnie, this guy Al Verdi, in one of the drum stick booths at Pasic, played every stroke with a finger rebound speed that I would say is impossible to do. This guy has the best finger technique of any drummer that I ever saw. He made every stroke with no tricks to it.
