djarrett
Hey, ian*: I have seen you post on this problem. I have never experienced this problem. Might I suggest (although I know it is an extra step) that you create your comments (if lengthy) in Word and then cut and paste them into the forum. This might save rehashing the post! Sorry you are having problems. DJ
djarrett
Hey, I floated this to the top because I want to re-visit the entire idea of rudiments. Lots of new folks here. What do you guys think. DJ
dayvel
While I have no objection to the rudiments per se, it always made more sense to me to break things down to an even more fundamental level. I try to think in terms of the single stroke (not the roll, just a single stroke) the double stroke (again not the roll, but two strokes with the same hand) and the triple stroke (as in a flamadiddle or jazz ride pattern). Everything is built from these simple components; that's the whole point of the George Lawrence Stone books. You want to be able to play these strokes in any possible combination. It frees you up to play music as opposed to stringing together rudiments.
