London, where to do a good set-up? Prices?

Hey fellow Londoners

I had a guy from a local shop (Erith) doing a set up for me on my Ibanez soundgear, and that came bad. I paid £55.00, I don't know if that price was fair but the set-up wasn't good at all.

I asked low action it came higher, my fretboard is not properly levelled, my volume knob had to be fixed (i did that myself.) Well and he took a week to do it.

Can you please tell me where to find good guys to do the job, doesn't need to be cheap I rather to pay a bit more and have a good job done.

Thanks

I was going to recommend The Bass Centre in Spitalfields near Liverpool Street but not sure after Dave Sisk's post elsewhere. Still probably worth a try maybe. I've had work done by the Bass Cellar in Denmark Street.

The Gallery is a great place though, and within walking distance from my house. About 10 minutes walk from Camden tube.

Definitely The Gallery - Martin is the best bass repair man in Europe, in my humble opinion - does an incredible job, is pretty cheap, friendly, and you get to go and hang out in a really cool shop. :)

Chris at the Bass Centre does a good job too...

You really need to learn to do that yourself and it is not difficult. There are plenty of threads that walk you trough a proper set-up.

Martin is a great repairman/bass builder -I'd concur and the Gallery is worth a visit anyway. The staff are decent and down to earth too and incrdibly helpful. It's worth going just to see so many basses crammed in such a little space.

Probably worth ringing first to let them know when you are visiting.

I'll throw another one out at you - I forget his name, but in the basement of Andy's in Denmark St is a workshop - he's been great for me. He does guitars generally rather than specialist bass repairs/set-ups, but did great job on my electric bass and acoustic guitar.

That's the chap - very nice bloke indeed. Happily, i don't need to go and see him at the moment, but he's certainly come to my rescue on a couple of occasions!

Cheers
