New Jazz Bass Audio Clip

Recommended Posts

Here's a two minute sample clip from a rough mix of a song I tracked with my band this past weekend, using my new Fender American Jazz Bass.

The mix is 'rough' and there is a still a piano part to be tracked and added, but you'll get the idea. This is an original song entitled 'Close To You' which we have high hopes might gain us some local radio airplay when the new CD is released.

And sorry, no fancy slap tricks or blazing bass solo work from me on this one. Just trying to play for the song, keep it in the pocket, and carry the groove as usual.

All constructive criticism of this song and/or the rough mix is welcome...

Thanks, guys...

We took a DI line off the back of the Eden WT300 and also set up a second track with a condensor in tight to one of the speaker cab's drivers, and then blended the two signals until we got a bass tone that was right for the song.

I'm quite happy with it. And it should sound much better when it's properly compressed, mixed, and mastered.

And now just for contrast...

Here's a rough mix sample clip of another original song from the project. This one's probably going to be the heaviest sounding song on the disc, but it's still a groove-based tune.

I'm using my Spector bass on this cut, and with the same Eden amp/cab and mic/line to two tracks set-up to record.

The file is around 1.5MBs in size and duration is just over two and a half minutes

Again, all and any constructive criticism welcome. I'll be showing our engineer and the rest of the band members your replies, as all and any sources of input will be helpful, especially this close to the final mixdown.

Nice creamy smoothness. Leaves my bass buds wanting more of the same flavor. :thu:

Very nice sound--good pocket!

Will refrain from making any mixing comments because you mentioned it is not complete.

Do like the "space" of this tune, though--not busy nor cluttered.

When can we hear the final mix?

Good!

Two comments:

1. more defined bass--a bit lost in the mix I believe,

2. Guitar panned too far--pan more to the middle?

Jes' my opinion! :thu:

Final mixes should be complete within a couple of weeks or so, with luck.

Our last tracking session in the studio will be next Tuesday night. We'll be laying piano tracks on four of the cuts for the Project. After that it'll all be in the can and ready for mixing, when our good friend (and big-eared engineer) 'BoneDog' will be mixing it down through his newly acquired set of KRK V8s.

P.S...

Keep the specific comments like that coming. It's all very useful, thanks. That's what rough mixes are for, afterall.
