coyote
When my wife and I went house shopping 7 years ago, the single criterion I had was the house must have a full basement - and the major portion of that basement would become my music studio. And so it is! My wife can have the rest of the house I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist. This ain't no track meet; this is football. wraub
Hard cases under the bed, gig bags hanging in a front closet (one with a bass inside), basses and violin on the living room wall next to the computer, practice amp in the LR under an end table, entertainment center in the LR for playback. I practice anywhere I want, pretty much. Even in the back yard. Not to belabor the point, but I have a really cool wife. To topic, I agree that the first thing is to get the gear off the floor. Use wall hangers for basses/guitars, make simple tables/shelves for everything else. using 2x4s, 1/2 inch ply and deck screws. That's where I'd start... Ya know, if I needed to. Good luck. Peace, wraub I'm a lot more like I am now than I was when I got here.
getz out
If you don't want to put the basses up on proper hangers, I would suggest you keep them in the cases. Even on hangers in a basement, I'd be a bit worried. What's the temperature and humidity like?
Omor Nomar ff bass
The temperature floats between 68 to 78 degrees and there is an in room dehumidifier set at 40% so dampness and temps aren't an issue. Is there something on my face?

wraub
Yes, Maury,a violin. It's like a little URB. Seriously, for a while now I have been messing about with it, trying to coax anything musical from it besides an uptown ukelele impression. Surprisingly good results so far, but it's more of a fun novelty at the moment. I'm sure I'll never be more than a fiddler, hopefully a competent one, but no one out there need fear my violin talents. Peace, wraub I'm a lot more like I am now than I was when I got here.
