I won the bid on a QSC PLX 3402 on EBAY for $700. I mailed the money order to the seller the next day after establishing contact with her. She seemed really cool online and on the phone. She gave me a tracking number and all that jive. After she replied that she had recieved the money, I wasn't able to make contact with her anymore. No e mail, phone disconnected, cancled her EBAY accounts and everything. The package should have been here around September 4th and today is the 17th. Who do I contact now? Man, this sucks I feel like I should go on the street corner and beg for money. If anyone knows who to report this to or any agency that handles stuff like this please let me know. By the way, EBAY says they can do nothing about it because I payed with a certified check and she is no longer an EBAY member.

Contact the Shipping company to determine if indeed there was a package to be delivered to you.

Was it a money order or certified check ?? You make reference to both in your post. If US Postal MO.....you should be covered by the Post Office under Mail Fraud.

Ebay should still be able to give you contact info......if you show proof of not receinving the product. Only problem is....you'll have to wait a bit.....Ebay requires some time to ensure it's just not an honest mistake ( which is possible )

Contact the local authorities. Have all your documentation in hand , and present your case.

In any case......you will have to wait some more time to ensure it is indeed a wrong doing and not some error.

Good Luck

the problem with ebay is that they are not responsible for fraud on their website. this covers their ass in situations like this. if she gave you a tracking # on the package then everything should be cool and it's the shipping companies fault. if the tracking # is bogus, then yeah, you got ripped off. and the worst part is that for $700 it's only a misdemeanor so nobodies gonna look into it for you.

my sympathies man, this sucks.

Eeeeeehhhhhhhhh.

Now how would you know this??:D

yea that sucks, if it is a UPS tracking #, you should be able to go to the UPS website and see whats up with the package. That sucks though. If i were you, I would be a lot more angry and would have labeled my thread: "FUCK!!!! FUCKING EBAY!!! FUUUUUUUCK!!!!"

A friend of mine got ripped off like this before. He got it for $650 +/-. He cancelled the money order, but it had already been cashed. The guy used a Mailbox Etc. address, but he registered there under his real name and address. He was able to track the guy's house address and everything, but he was still ultimately responsible for paying the money to the money order company. He still hasn't gotten any money back in 3 plus years. Bad things can happen. Unfortunately, it happened to you. Ebay should be able to do something to help you out. Since you won the auction, they should do what they can to make it right since they provided the avenue through which you were defrauded. I wish you the best, man. If you catch the bitch, fry her ass.

Edit: My friend was not the winner of the auction. He was the second bidder and was contacted by another seller with the same item, so Ebay wouldn't help him out.

Not to offer a useless suggestion after the fact, but doesn't anyone do COD anymore? That seems to be the most fair way to go, for both parties. I think in this age of Ebay, FedEx or UPS would offer it--even if only for a small charge, it would probably be worth it to all parties involved.

I looked at my post after posting it to check my post count, then I realized the irony of having an ad in my signature. Anyone who buys my BP-8, I'll do COD!!

Also, for the uninformed: COD=Charge On Delivery. Basically the delivery service becomes like a pizza guy...

Where did you mail the money order? You have a mail-fraud case here at the least. Was the person in or out of your state? If out of state, you have a federal crime. Even at $700, I believe interstate mail fraud carries potential jail time. The only problem is you have to convince a prosecutor to file charges.

You also have small claims court. You could file in your state or the seller's state.

some things i forgot to mention:

like a a dumb ass I mailed the money order over seas; to London to be exact.

The tracking number that she gave me was created on the UPS web site. Anyone who has an account with UPS is able to go an the web site, create a lable with a tracking number, and pay shipping. the tracking number they give you, or in my case the one she gave me, is basically phony until it is scaned by UPS. When you try to track you package through the web site, it says that the billing information has been recieved by UPS. This dosen't mean that the package is in the hands of UPS. It can be deceving.

That's just horrific - I'm in the market for a PLX 3002 myself and reading this just scares me! Have you any clue where in London they were, I've a good mind to go on a vigilante mission and hunt them down. If you've got any ideas PM me, if their phone number was a landline they may be traceable.

I'm pretty sure that this was a scam - there's no way that anyone in London would sell a PLX 3402 for $700 when they cost over $1800 new here. Bastards.

Unfortunately, Alex sounds absolutely right here -PLX's keep their value well in the UK. I'm sure it would have fetched substantially more than that on UK Ebay and no need for the seller to post overseas.

Commiserations, indeed. Many of us must be thinking, "there but for the grace of God". Hopefully Ebay can help - it's in their interests, because unless they get to grips with it this kind of publicity could kill their business.

Oh, you're screwed.

In general, things are more expensive outside of the US (with shipping and duties), except for occassionally Canada and Mexico.

You can contact the FBI for international fraud. At $700, good luck getting any response, though.

I filed a report with the FBI's internet fraud department but I do not have much faith in them finding my money. It is only $700. I guess I'll just have to cut back on the beer drinking for a few months. What really sucks is in about 7 weeks i would have saved up enough to by the brand new Epifani 4x10 that i have been wanting. Oh well shit happens. If anyone needs the address that i sent the check to for a search and destroy mission, please let me know. If anyone wants to go to the UK and get together a linch mob that'd be cool too.

Hmmm...maybe. Either way, what has happened to this method?

People are entirely too trusting of other people. In some instances, this isn't necessarily a bad thing. When it comes to money, ALWAYS assume that the other person in the transaction is out to screw you. Always. There are a lot of people on the internet looking for ways to take money from people. It sucks that you lost some bread learning this lesson, but I'm guessing that you'll learn from this and it won't happen again. Be happy that it wasn't $7,000.

depends on where she lives. you said she gave you a tracking number, so check that. i bought a bass case from someone on ebay on the 4th. they shipped it on the 5th and i got it today (18th). they were in canada, it took 13 days to get here. id say wait another day or two and check the tracking number.

First off, you have my sympathies. Ebay is SO ripe for ripoffs, and it has happened to many folks.

I've been involved in about 100 eBay transactions, and I have found that eBay is essentially useless in this type of situation.

However, for future reference, paying via credit card AND using Paypal gives you a little more security.

Again, OW, sorry to hear about this.

There's still the possibility of ophan recieving what he ordered but it seems a little suspicious that after receiving payment this person suddenly became impossible to contact and their ebay account and everything dissapeared.

The thing is I make online trades with people outside of EBAY and on EBAY all of the time. The trade in question had red flags all over it. I never should have done it. But I am just so used to doing business online with all kinds of people it didn't really register. I think the lesson here is use a more secure payment method from now on.

London members,

Is there any chance that the London police department would do anything in a case like this? I still have the address where I sent the payment.

I'm not sure as I've never had experience in matters like this but it can't hurt to try.
