They've gathered MIDI pieces from all over and indexed them by melodic contour. The contour's the same as used in the Ultimate Fakebook series, for those of you familiar with them. You can also search by whistling the tune (I haven't tried it) or entering it on a keyboard. And if a melody's not in the database you can add it.
