Joyous Naw-Ruz!

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to wish everyone well at the beginning of a new year! :)

I'm sure most of you are thinking, "Huh? What's he been drinking?!?" ;) And the answer is: very little.

According to the Baha'i calendar (19 months of 19 days, plus the Intercalary Days to make up the discrepancy), the last month of the year is spent fasting. From sunrise to sunset, all Baha'is who are healthy, of age (at least 15), and not pregnant or suckling are to abstain from food & drink. It is a time of prayer, renewal, and growth.

Part of the calendar has a parallel in Iranian custom, where the days begin at sundown instead of midnight, and the year turns at (about) the Spring Equinox, on March 20th.

As of sundown Sunday, we completed the Fast & entered the New Year, year 162 B.E. And so, I would like to wish my friends here all the best, with the hope that the coming year brings you great things & much happiness. :)
