Robman2
As this is a peer driven site, allow me to direct a bit of kudo... Ray Charles...(words are useless) Terry Howard, Ray Charles' 20 year partner in the room and on the board. Ray was a like a father to Terry and he (Terry) is perhaps as close as anyone to Ray in the last two decades. Nora Jones, chantuess, gifted player and vocalist. http://www.royerlabs.com/rc_nora_jones.html Phil Ramone, Al Schmitt...the list goes on... GREAT JOB, GREAT RECORD...Much deserved acclaim to all of those involved in the project... Perhaps an ironic bit of twist, when Billy Joel was scheduled for the session at Ray's studio, he somehow managed to get in an accident which kept him from the GIG, what a shame, the Piano man MIA... Rob Sorry to hear that, too. At least they recorded, "Baby Grand" together. That tune is in the classic Ray Charles slow ballad and they sound incredible together. RC's manager was as gracious as a stand in for Ray as one could possibly be. What a class act! It's easiest to find me on Facebook. Rim
I saw a Billy Joel interview (it may have been an extra on his concert DVD) where he talks about the "Baby Grand" session. BJ says he was pretty intimidated about singing with RC (I would think most people would be) since RC was such a great singer so BJ kind of sang it "straight" (not bluesy or soulful). RC then ended up singing it straight, too. BJ realized RC was following his lead so BJ started singing it with more soul and so did RC - which is the version on the album. I thought it was cool that RC would follow BJ's lead as he was BJ's guest and that RC was trying to give what he thought BJ wanted from him. I thought it showed a lot of humility of RC. aka riffing Double Post music: Strip Down http://rimspeed.com http://loadedtheband.com

Philip OKeefe
Ray Charles was a national treasure. I was glad to see him getting some much deserved love at the Grammys, but sad that it happened after his passing. BTW, I loved the BJ / RC story - thanks for sharing that!
