Always a pleasure - The SCI 6

Recommended Posts

Different strokes, Dave.  I agree with JoJo.  My Six-Trak that I bought about 25 years ago is full of old worn out caps and oozes analog drifty sonic mojo goodness.  I'm just sad that it never appreciated in value like all the other analog synths seem to have done (and that I could have bought) back then.

Sorry to say I was never much of a fan of the Six-Trak.  Too thin-sounding for my taste. :idk:

Well, I didn't say I'd equate it to a Prophet 5 or MemoryMoog but 6 different patches stacked in mono and you couldn't get this thing fat? Disagree, this little thing can get pretty nasty.  6 Trak + outboard fx = yes.
+ arppegg and simple seq is fun and musical.

Agreed.  I had one that I paired with my DX-7.  The keybed feel was about as uninspiring as the sound. and the wheels were pretty wonky feeling.  I never ran it through any FX, so I'm sure a chorus and delay would have helped.  I'm not sure if this was common for synths of that day, but plugging in a 1/4" while the keyboard was powered on could result in a nasty shock!!

Truth be told, apart from the T8 and Prophet VS, none of the older SCI synths have ever done it for me - not even the P5.  Just a matter of taste.

I did love my Drumtrax, though.

Those were exactly the two I would have listed myself. I did have a Six-Trak briefly, but I basically treated it as a mono synth, and it didn't last long in my rig.

And I enjoyed having a TOM for a while, too.
