October is the new January?

Recommended Posts

There are a lot of reasons why winter NAMM is less important as the best time to announce a new product.

But, it's interesting that more and more often we are seeing new and revision models announced in the fall, ya?

Have they typically been getting these instruments into shops in time for the holiday shopping season?

In other electronic areas.... CES is still in January.  Apple WWDC is in June, but they often have events in the fall.

I think the Covid online NAMM showed online releases have as much or more sales power, so start push products out for high sells seasons like October.   NAMM was suppose to be a business show for merchants, but as more and more Rock stars started playing in booth and hanging out NAMM became the big hang that everyone conned a badge to get into.   Covid got people used to video releases and videos of well know players doing release videos.  Well produced video reached a lot more people.    Even Apple went from big in-person release events to high quality video release events.   Even now with Covid restrictions gone Apple events are media and big YouTube creators invited to the events and even they sit and watch the same videos the public sees only difference they get to do a hands on afterwards.

The real world is going to be a old Boomer thing and everyone else will be working and living their lives with AR glasses and headsets.  Makes me think of that old Sandra Bullock, Wesley Snipes and Sylvester Stallone movie Demolition Man.   The scene where Sandra and Sly are going to have "sex" and she tells him to put on the headset and she does the same and virtually get it on.   Then she gets grossed out when Sly gets tricked and takes off the headset and wants the physically get busy.   Sandra Bullock screams.... actual fluid exchange,  NO.

October seems like an odd time to have the hype of a new product if it doesn’t make it to dealers by November. It distracts from existing  products they do need to move in the last quarter.  Unless, it allows them to drop price on current lineup for the deal hunters and then new fiscal year - new push.

Stimulating the process. The debut of the latest signals sales to come for everyone. There are lots who shop for deals and would not buy the latest greatest. No one sets up Christmas decorations on store shelves in August unless there is at least the illusion of them being at a price you had better take advantage of.

That's a very good assessment of the situation. They're wanting to get their products out before the holiday season. More specifically Christmas. FWIW, luxury items still sell very well even during a downturn economy. Big ticket items like the upcoming Yamaha Montage M will probably sell like hotcakes in the run-up to Christmas if Yamaha actually manages to get them to retailers beforehand. If in fact, the Montage M is more than just an incremental upgrade to the original Montage. If not, it could very well hamper sales. Yamaha's high-end arranger line is usually also released in the Fall, usually around October, or thereabouts. When people are more willing to open their wallets. Pretty sneaky, huh. 😍

Yes, yes. That’s what I’m wondering about.  I see  Gaia 2 is in stock, but not the Korg Keystage.  Have they started building any Hammond M Solos yet?  Will Yamaha Montage M be at dealers for Christmas?  It’s a mad dash to announce a new product and have it in shops in time before end of 4th quarter.
