Routing audio freely in macOS

Some years ago we used to use Soundflower to grab the audio streams on a Mac to route elsewhere, record output of an app.

For the simple task of recording audio out of an app Audio Hijack is a well done solution.

Bluecat recently released a slick app in plug-in format called Connector with some powerful audio routing abilities.

theres also a freeware solution on GitHub called Blackhole.

Have you ever had the need to do this sort of thing?  What solutions have you found?

I use Blackhole. Setting it as the default audio output for my Mac lets me bring it into Bidule to connect to one of their audio file recorder modules so I can record system audio. I know there are paid apps that can do this but I already had Bidule.

^^ I use Blackhole as well. What's more challenging is routing all your computer + interface + daw audio into the built-in screen recorder/video recorder Quicktime app while also recording the interface and system audio into your DAW. I've done it but it's a task every single time.

Loopback has been great for me.  I use it for remote sessions.  I route one of the mic inputs on my Apollo to a virtual device so I can select it as my "mic" for Zoom calls (I use an SM58 with an on-off switch).  I also route the Aux2 send from UA Console to its own dedicated virtual device.  I then use Audio Hijack to send that device to the Audiomovers Listento plugin, so clients can listen to both the DAW playback and my active inputs.  I exclude the "system audio" virtual channel from Aux2, so they don't hear their own voice from the Zoom call echoing back.  I can also customize the mix they hear remotely by routing anything in the DAW that I don't want them to have to hear (e.g. click track) to that system audio virtual channel.  Took a while to figure it all out, but it works like a charm.
