Notes_Norton
It seems the audiences that were denied 2 years of live entertainment due to COVID, are not only happy to be coming back, but extra enthusiastic and joyful. It's good for us too, as we are extra enthusiastic and joyful to be able to perform as well. Notes_Norton
We have a few St Pat Parties. Life is returning to semi-normal. We'll play McNamara, Harrigan, Danny, Rose, and a few others, but the weirdest one got included only a few years ago... It's the Unicorn song ??? How did this get to be a St. Patrick's Day song??? It was written by an American Jewish artist, the talented Shel Silverstein, as a poem for a children's book. Later it was put to music. It's a fantasy about the biblical flood that happened in Mesopotamia, which is where modern day Iraq is, and many thousands of miles from Ireland. Ireland wasn't even Ireland then, and those thousands of years ago, was probably inhabited by Druids if inhabited at all, who didn't believe in and never heard of the god mentioned in the song. Furthermore, there are no references to shamrocks, clover, McAnybody, or anything else Irish in it. Sure, it was sung by a band called the Irish Rovers, but that doesn't cut it. Why not choose a song written and performed by an Irish citizen, say, Van Morrison. Why not Moon Dance? Wild Night? It's more Irish than the Unicorn Song. (Please take this as lame humor, not a complaint) We'll have fun doing it, include some shtick, goof off a bit, and the people will love it. And all but a half dozen or so songs will be our regular ones for whatever crowd we will look at. And at the end, we'll get a little extra money for the holiday surcharge. Life is good this week. And all the parties are outdoors, so we'll be a little safer than if they were inside.
