Teeter
I"m looking to buy a quality portable dual manual organ for blues and rock and have become fascinated with HX3-based clones like Uhl x4-2 and Mag C2. As mentioned in another thread, I"m a pretty decent blues piano player who"s decided to learn organ. ð³ My concern with Uhl or Mag is that they seem to be quite rare here in the U.S. and may be problematic if they require service or support. Am I crazy for considering these? Obviously, it"s nerve wracking to potentially pay big bucks for an instrument I"ve never auditioned. But here in KC I don"t have access to any of the likely alternatives either (Viscount, Mojo, Hammond, etc.), so whatever I buy, it will likely be sight unseen. That said, any feedback or experiences with the Mag or Uhl rigs would be appreciated. Or if you think there are better alternatives I"m all ears. zxcvbnm098
I think UHL is on it's way out... https://forums.musicplayer.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/2940796/UHL_Instruments_is_shutting_do The Mag stuff is handled by Diversi here, but I don't know a thing about them. SamuelBLupowitz
I"ve been on a similar hunt recently. On another thread it was pointed out that Elle King"s keyboard player is using a single-manual Mag while opening for Heart, but otherwise I don"t see them much. Out of my price range new from Divisi; they"re a little expensive even by dual-manual-clone standards (XK5 excepted). But the little I"ve heard about them has been very positive, so I"ll keep an ear to the ground and this thread with ya. Quote Samuel B. Lupowitz Musician. Songwriter. Food Enthusiast. Al Coda
I think UHL is on it's way out... https://forums.musicplayer.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/2940796/UHL_Instruments_is_shutting_do they are back since some time now ... UHL X4 v1 and v2 fly off the shelf like hot cakes. 1st batch they offered was almost sold out by pre-orders. The organ comes w/ latest HX3 and a Neo Vent II build in. I dunno why they don´t have an english language site meanwhile UHL Instruments Anyway,- go and listen to all the demos incl. the new ones w/ the X4 in action. Next batch is in the works and comes soon (october I think) ... Dunno how many are pre-ordered. the price for a single manual model (X4-1) is steep ´cause it has the same features/engine than the dual manual version. It seems better buying the dual manual version (X4-2),- maybe together w/ ATA case (sold separately). A.C.

I know that Mag uses Diversi as U.S. distributor. Any such relationship for Uhl?

Obviously not at the moment. This is what Mr. Uhl is writing on his website (translated from German): "Info: We sell only within Europe! We take care of our customers directly within Europe, which guarantees a perfect service. Outside Europe, this is unfortunately not satisfactory for us. At the moment we do not want to set up a worldwide dealer and service network." Quote https://www.spektralfarben-music.com/alf

I also learned today that Diversi is no longer selling Mag in the U.S. All Mag organs must be purchased directly from Mag in Czech Republic. ð¤
ojvalencia
I have the MAG P-2 going on 2 1/2 years. Absolutely thrilled with everything about it from the build quality & reliability to the sound & feel. The transaction was seamless, great communication with Max (I met him while on vacation in Prague, spent an afternoon with him at his shop). I've owned a Hammond XK2, Xk3, XK3c; still have a Nord C2. I also own a number of Hammond consoles & Leslie cabinets. I did an MAG - Mojo comparison a through Leslie 122, Motion Sound KP500SN and Mackie & Yamaha powered speakers side by side in the same room. The difference is significant (in favor of the MAG). The Mojo sounded very good, The MAG sounded like a B3/A100 console. This was also the opinion of a friend of mine who brought the Mojo & Motion Sound amp over. Should you decide to go with the MAG, you will not be disappointed. If you're ever near Long Island (about 65 miles east of NYC), feel free to come and try it out. Thanks for the feedback and kind offer. I"m definitely tempted. Does your P-2 have the onboard Vent? If so, what are your thoughts? (I"m unlikely to add a real Leslie.) ojvalencia
It does have the Mini Vent built in. I own a Vent but didn't want to carry around an extra box. I also had 6H and 11 pin connectors installed (HX3 expansion board). I have never used the HX3 sim so I really don't know what it sounds like. I would have to change the output configurations in the HX3 Remote software to do that. Currently, the R & L 1/4" outputs are for the Mini Vent, the organ & pedal outputs are HX3 (no sim). Most people who heard both would say that the Vent is still the king of sims but I would defer to others since my only other sim references are the Nord C2 (with C2D software update) and Hammond XK3, 3c. I found the Nord usable, the XK3c NOT usable at all.
