d halfnote
Here's one that gives a good view of what the overall stage look is. The view widens aft 1st few mins. [gtr solo starts 2:19] [video:youtube] For comparison here's the same tune from a diff show the next week. [gtr solo = 1:48] [video:youtube] I think he mighta fined the bassist for upstaging everyone w/the white suit. Here's what they looked like last week [8-3-18]. This is closer. Dig how may gtrs he's using ! [if y'don't wanna hear RC gab dial ahead to 2:00] [solos = gtr @3:15 / a somewhat stylistically unlikely pno solo starts @ 3:35 & is joined by Ry @ 4:30] Watch closely & you can see RC responding to &/or cuing the band. [video:youtube] BTW & FWIW RC's got a book out, too ! Chk = http://rycooder.com/book/los-angeles-stories/ d=halfnote

desertbluesman
I was never much interested in Ry Cooder truthfully. A good musician I assume. Never paid much attention to him. dbm If it sounds good, it is good !! http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=143231&content=music
Scott Fraser
Always loved his work, have a few of his albums, had an interesting chat with him at a Buena Vista Social Club gig, haven't been up on his latest stuff but like to check in every few years. W/all respect, yer a great player, as I've said since I heard you, but that betrays a confusing lack of perception. Yer loss. d=halfnote

If I ever heard his stuff I am sure it was great musical work. dbm If it sounds good, it is good !! http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=143231&content=music
d halfnote
Not to argue abt Cooder, who you dismiss apparently w/out bothering to hear (though I'll tip you that he's one of the artists at work these days that most closely fits the bill of what sensed was yer artistic attitude: resolutely dedicated to both skills & the traditions he works within :idk ), but that last paragraph is simply attempted self-justification. Music is the deepest art humans have & to ignore it's power to influence us "beyond the veil of illusion" is to miss the possiblities it has for us. See a when we get there ! d=halfnote
