LiveMusic
I GOTTA GET DRUNK IF YOU'VE GOT THE MONEY HONEY It's possible I'm thinking about one of these. It's bugging heck out of me. A drinking song and I keep thinking it's Willie and Merle singing it. It's not a new song, maybe ten or 20 years ago. It's not WHISKEY RIVER. Not BEER FOR MY HORSES. I recall it as being humorous. Like I GOTTA GET DRUNK (and I sure do dread it). > > > [ Live! ] < < <
Guitar Geezer
I gotta get drunk D Well, I gotta get drunk and I sure do dread it, G D 'cause I know just what I'm gonna do. I start to spend my money, callin' everybody honey, E A and wind up singin' the blues. G D I've spent my whole paycheck on some old wreck, A and brother, I can name you a few. D G Well, I gotta get drunk and I sure do dread it, D A D 'cause I know just what I'm gonna do. D 2. I gotta get drunk, I can't stay sober, G D there's a lot of good people in town, who'd like to hear me holler, see me spend my dollars, E A and I wouldn't think of lettin' 'em down. G There's a lot of doctors that tell me, D A that I'd better start to slowin' it down. D G But there's more old drunks than there are old doctors, D A D so I guess we'd better have another round. + Chorus + Instr. urbanhiker
Willie and Merle did a tune called, I believe, "Reasons To Quit", about smoking and drinking. It wasn't particularly humorous, though.
LiveMusic
I have spent far too much time on this already. I've looked through hundreds of paper lead sheets I have, I've searched the net. I am 75% sure it was I GOTTA GET DRUNK and I was confusing it with IF YOU'VE GOT THE MONEY. Because both songs mention money. The other 30% of the brain thinks it was another song. BTW, Willie and Waylon did a song and its name escapes me at the moment but I do have the lyric sheet and it's a song where they are slamming the Music Row execs, telling them they don't know shit. It's funny, too. > > > [ Live! ] < < <
