whitefang
Already mentioned it the "birthday" thread that Prince's b'day was JUNE 7, and NOT July 7, which was RINGO'S b'day. Got "messed up" alright! Whitefang I started out with NOTHING...and I still have most of it left!

Caevan O’Shite
Still, the man never really got the full props he genuinely deserved for his broad, extraordinary musical skills and talents. I, for one, hadn't truly recognized just how good he really was until after his demise; and part of the reason for that was the fact that so many live performance videos of him really goin' to town widditt had been withheld from wider distribution, in turn quite often with proceeds from the original appearances and/or broadcasts earmarked for charities... A remarkable artist, a remarkable man. Gone all too soon. d halfnote
As I said last year, PRN was prolly the best combination of talent that we've ever seen: composer, singer, multi-instrument talented (still tryna find a clip of him & his fave concert trick of simultaneously playing RH kboard & LH gtr), arranger & producer. More than 1/2 his finished tracks are only him. Plus he tripped the light fantastic as a dancer in ways that went beyond his obvious influence from James Brown into an arty choreography that didn't just fill rhythmic space (as in most stage dance) but served as another interpretation of his tunes. Beside the 1 above, look at these 2 clips [video:youtube] [excuse the audio / apparently the result of another sweep through YT by his estate / still, just look at what he did] [video:youtube] Oh...yes, I guess I did get the date wrong. Can only say I've been a bit, um, distracted this past month. d=halfnote
Paul Scott Rock
Speaking strictly as a person who was actually born on the 7th day , of the 7th month, I can tell you first hand what it's like. When you are born on the greatest day of the year, during the greatest week ,you are quite obviously of the chosen ones. This is something you just know. Other people like sisters and stuff might hate you for many good reasons but being born on this day is what seals the deal. They can hate all they want it won't matter. The day is hate proof. It can't be hated. Even by sisters. You wake up , not on the day , you wake up at the state of July the seventh week. It's a weeklong thing that begins around July third.sometimes earlier. And you have noticed that you feel really good. Even if your wife is angry again like she usually is , you don't care. Your kids seem to be ok. Not about to do anything crazy. Your car runs like a new car. Food tastes better. Your feet don't hurt and you bath in the glory of sharing a great birthday week with the other awesome people in the club. The sun shines , the clouds float around and time stands still. Fish will bite and birds will sing. No bugs bite though and no matter how long you go without taking a shower you seem to be clean enough. Being freshly cleaned up on birthday week is like being born again. Other than that , it's pretty much like any other day.

Paul Scott Rock
Really cool harp on that Trac . That lyric , the little girls all know what the man don't understand, can also be found in a great frank Marino song called back door man . Also the seventh son ,wow that guy had alot off kids. By the time the guy had seven sons he no longer cared so the kid had to be tough .
whitefang
"Back Door Man" was written by the late, great Willie dixon and first recorded by Howlin' Wolf. Then The Doors made it well known again about 7-8 years later. Followed by a host of others, including Frank Marino's group Mahogany Rush. Good band, too. skipclone 1
Kool to see Mahogany Rush come up. I always had it in mind to do a cover of `Strange Dreams` sometime-still think it would be fun. whitefang
It's funny to think that some thought they were a BLACK rock group. Y'know, "Mahogany" in the name and all. But then, as it was clear their sound was a mix of rock, blues and funk, the name was a kind of "Vanilla Fudge" type thing. Whitefang I started out with NOTHING...and I still have most of it left! skipclone 1
In those days, a Black rock group-especially from Canada-would have been a rarity. skipclone 1
Anyway back to the subject at hand-I was surprised to say the least-to read an article about a house for sale completely designed by Frank Lloyd Wright-in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, where I went to Jr. High school and a couple of suburbs over from Bloomington, where the purple one himself resided. I might have rode my bicycle past it. https://patch.com/minnesota/stlouispark/famous-frank-lloyd-wright-home-twin-cities-sale Same old surprises, brand new cliches- Skipsounds on Soundclick: www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandid=602491
