i became a beatles fan in the late 80's... but one thing that came crystal clear because of this thread is that the beatles are not lennon, mccartney, george and ringo... it was a team.... and when the team broke up, so did the musical vibe or whatever you want to call it that stamped the image of what we call the beatles.. harrison came a little close to it i think in Cloud Nine's "When we was Fab"... of course he had ringo on that album....the next closest resemblence i've heard is julian lennon's photograph smile album.... I think i'd love to see a julian lennon/paul mccartney album... my .002 of thought

Nice story, but I'm sure it was probably all Mike Love's idea... :) 15 is plenty old enough to appreciate something of this magnitude...When I was 8, Gene Simmons snuck into my home studio, spit some blood and recorded some bass tracks for me...I'll never forget that!

Oh, I wasn't implying that 15 was too young to appreciate the significance...just that the Beatles were over and done with 25 years before she was born. It would be like me (and I'm 44) having had Duke Ellington come and record some tracks for me. Yeah, that would have been cool...really cool, but if I'd been 15 I wouldn't have been able to appreciate it as much as, say, my Mom. If she's 15 and gets the significance, more power to her, but a lot of 15 year olds aren't into their parents music, at least until they're older. Now, at my age, if Duke Ellington were still alive and offered to record some tracks for me, it'd take a year to wipe the smile off my face.

I was just in a book store doing Christmas shopping and over heard some 16-18 year olds, a gay guy and three girls. One girl a goth but the others "typical": "that's the Beatles" "yeah... they were really dorky, weren't they?" "yeah, I hate them, they're stupid" Stopped me in my tracks. Amazing.

Cheeseball or not, Paul has made priceless contributions to the quality of music ALL of us listen to today, and I think it would be an honour to even so much as be a neighbour of someone who has recorded with him. Modern and/or Popular music would not be what it is today without Paul McCartney - that goes without saying.. :)
Originally posted by Chip McDonald: ...The music is brilliant.
Mmmmmmm....! I get the feeling Paul is the only one that had any real FUN making/playing his own music. His "Silly Love Songs" was a poke at all of us...in reverse! As much as I like all four of them...Lennon needed Yoko to slap him around a bit and tell him he WAS great. George...poor George, though a great guitar player, he chose to stay in the shadows...maybe a bit too much. Ringo...well Ring was/is/will be  ...always! A solid drummer, but not a very prolific writer/performer. Yeah he gets out once in awhile with his "All Stars", but I think he's more happier staying home with Barbara...yeah! :p Still say that Paul was THE musician in this bunch.

Guys, give alphajerk a little slack. He has no taste, talent, musical or cultural awareness, and possesses a very small intelligence. He is, after all, the one who said that strings have no business in Rock music. If it were the 40's he would have said the electric guitar is not a real guitar. We should have tolerance for those less cerebrally, culturally and musically gifted than the average 12 year old. He's probably only 15 and broke into his dad's computer to post. So alphie boy, try to be clever in your forth-coming display of insulting stupidity. I know you try hard but cleverness seems to elude you. Don't give up. Puberty is just around the corner. Flame on alphie boy.

I think this is the heart of the Paul thing. I've enjoyed some of his post- music. Just like so many other groups that really needed each other to make something exciting happen. The whole is more than the sum of the parts (where did I get that from?). DB - thanks for the story. Without analyzing all of the implications for the future, it's a nice warm tale. Good luck to the the girl that has obviously impressed you. When talent is part of success is when there is a chance that something really good can be created (like the Beatles). Tom P.S. "You know my name.." was too much fun not to be remembered.

AlphaJ, Jimi was a big Bob Dylan and Beatles fan. Ever hear the bootleg of Jimi doing Day tripper or Sgt. Pepper? The correlation between Jimi and the Beatles is not that big of a gap, really. -Both were in a whole other galaxy as compared to everyone else, at that time. lay some more of that 'Alph-wisdom' on us, it's always a good read. gUnS? lExAn?, wtf? :D Matt

Wow! This thread is having a long and active life, isn't it? So many facets and participants that it's hard to know where to begin. First things first: Lee, I'm single. :D And, who knows where I might move to next, but I am damn sick of Portland Oregon, weather. I think that you would be too, cuz it's been sucking lately. Right, GZ, Dylan? Next, Rage Against The Machine is a raging success in music too. I don't know if they are raging romantics in the way that Lee detailed, (or not), but they are doing fine work and reaching their target demographic very effectively. It doesn't follow that Paul being a romantic and successful means all who are successful are romantics. There is no formula for this type of endeavor, only the need to have something to say and a good consistent work ethic. It helps a great deal if your "message" is clear and well-presented. Also, Tedster, I wasn't referring to your Limburger and other cheeses references. Which I find very amusing. If you read the whole thread (it's grown a bit) it seems as if cheese is a metaphor for pop music ala "Silly Love Songs" or "Band On The Run". That's how I was using it when I wrote that. In my record/tape/cd collection you would find many many examples of that type of music, that I had paid good money for and have gotten a lot of use out of. The "average music listener" is a lot like that: They're willing to fork over their discretionary income for heart-warming memorable pop songs. And why not? Fun is it's own reward, and I heartily recommend it. Especially to people like Alphajerk. :p :p :p :p :) Lastly, does anyone besides me hear a Wings influence in Smashmouth? Listen to Astro Lounge and then Venus and Mars. Love em both. Lee, tell me about Atlanta! Please. It sounds intriguing. Talk to you all soon!

Cuss a bunch and make no real point. Sorry about your childhood, whatever it was that did it to you. What have I done? Musically, you mean? Well, let's see. I guess the answer would be, a helluvalot less than Paul McCartney and a helluvalot more than you. That's a huge gap there for me to fit in between. There are between 60-70 million albums floating around the world with my name on them for playing, engineering or producing. It shouldn't be too hard for you to dig one up and make fun of it. Come on, show a little motivation. I can take it. My point is (see, actually having a point is good), the dude posted a great story about a famous, rich guy going way out of his way to be kind to a newcomer. I don't care if it's about music, literature, bungee cord jumping or playing Quake. It's about somebody being nice to somebody for no reason except wanting to. That's a good thing. But you piss all over the story and the people in it, based upon some bogus "superior" opinion about music. So I go to your website and I think, nah, don't think so. In ten lifetimes, he's not gonna get close to accomplishing what some of the people he feels free to trash have already done. That bugs me. Hey, it's a free country. Feel free to have your opinion. I know I have mine. Have a nice day. Regards, Brian T

Ya know... there's an alphie boy on every board. Probably ignored as a child, small penis, can't feel good about himself unless he's cutting someone else down. Maybe we could start an alphie boy relief fund. We could pay him to go play in someone else's sandbox. That would be a relief.

Tim, Email me at lflier@mindspring.com and I'll tell ya all about Atlanta! Don't want to give away TOO many secrets in public, y'know... :D But it seems from what I can gather of you, that you'd fit in here very nicely. And I don't blame you for being sick of Portland especially the weather! I have several friends from there who either moved or are sick of it, and I used to play there many years ago when I lived in L.A... I liked it then but I guess it wasn't so expensive, and I didn't have to live with the weather! --Lee

A band I was chums with had a member going out with one of McCartneys daughters. So they got to record at his private studio. At a barbeque party they all had. My chum whent into the kitchen to get a soda. He heard someone playing acc gtr & singing. He looked in and saw Paul facing away from him singing to himeself Blackbird. He stood there and grooved on what was supposed to be a solo / private performance. He dug it , said it made him feel the cat just dug music... Though DB you might dig that one too! Cheers
