zeronyne
What is with all of the rap bashing lately? Did a rapper run away with your moms or something? If you don't think rap is a valid form of music, that fine. You are certainly entitled to your own opinions, and I fully support and encourage that. But if you're going to dismiss all rap (defined by whatever boudaries are convenient) as "crap", please do not try to hijack gear threads with these sweeping generalizations and passive-aggresive sarcastic remarks. Not everyone in the world can be as musically sophisticated as you. (see, even people who like songs with spoken word lyrics can be sarcastic). "For instance" is not proof. bassix
I know there's quality rap music I'm just talking about the crap we get to see on MTV. Apparently softporn sells better then quality hiphop. Chuck D once said: "you singers are spineless - as you sing your senseless songs to the mindless". Damn, he really IS a prophet. Go look in a 2003 BMW 7 series, the display on the sound system reads Logic 7. For what it's worth, the reason Apple released (roman numeral identified) OS X was because there was already an OS 10 that had been trademarked by another company. Verbally, it's the same name. Visually, it's not. However, I doubt we'll see a Logic VII. Oh, and I should add that there is no Emagic booth in the NAMM directory this year, but there is an Apple booth. I could easily be wrong, but I have a feeling that we're about to see the end of the Logic product line... Edit: after a question from spokenward (see below), I did an Internet search; and while I could find plenty of support for my assertion that the X in OS X is the roman numeral 10, I couldn't find any support for my reason why (which I recall reading in MacWorld or MacAddict in the late nineties when the name was announced). If I was wrong about this, I apologize. I hate spreading misinformation. Mats Olsson.
Guitar picks, strings and drum sticks for the left handed. No, seriously: I belive that Clavia will show something rather good. Do you remember the Sid Station? the crazy guys are developing a new synth, I hope that they will take it to the show. /Mats http://www.lexam.net/peter/carnut/man.gif What do we want? Mats Olsson.
That's the one I was talking about. spokenward
I think that Geoff and Doug are on the right track. Apple products, of course, must be named "Pro". - wasn't the Apple name conflict with Microware's OS-9? (That was the Real Time Operating System that was used in ATMs and the first of the video Set-Top Boxes (DAVID) - not to mention an obscure Radio Shack color computer. I believe that this was in addition to what I mentioned rather than instead, but I may be wrong. I just did an Internet search; and while I could find plenty of support for my assertion that the X in OS X is the roman numeral 10, I couldn't find any support for my reason why (which I recall reading in MacWorld or MacAddict in the late nineties when the name was announced). On the other hand, I found a link to support your recollection: Posted on Tue Mar 21, 2000 at FlashCommerce News : Apple has won a trademark dispute over the name OS 9, defeating a lawsuit by Microware Systems. The court ruled that Apple's use constituted fair use.If I was wrong about the reason OS 10 is called OS X, I apologize. I hate spreading misinformation. Thanks, spokenward, for raising this question. Best, Geoff My Blue Someday appears on Apple Music | Spotify | YouTube | Amazon
Saint Johnny B
I went to Apple's website and downloaded their new iLife04 vid. It took a while but was well worth it. That stuff is awesome, easy, and fun. Sheryl Crow looks hot. After seeing it I have to up my bet on a new version of Logic to 50 bucks and on a PT Killer to 100 bucks. Didgi will have new stuff too. 5 bucks.

Dan South
Bush bombs Emagic and gives Avid the contract to rebuild Logic. Gus Lozada
I WAS TODAY AT THE APPLE'S BOOTH... ... No signs of any PT KILLER. Only their silly and lovable GARAGE BAND. BTW... if anyone is thinking ProTools is dead... stop the press... they have their prettiest and most amazing booth in years. Not sure about the products yet, but they seem FAR from being dead. M-Audio will announce at leat, a couple of very nice additions... but you will know about that later. Saint Johnny B
I win. At least as to Apple. Logic Pro for 999 bucks Logic Express for 299 bucks Soundtracks 1.2 for 199 bucks It was previewed tonite at Apple's booth. More details will come out tommorow. As to it killing PT, we must wait to see how competitve it will be. Prices should drop while the users get more and better capability. That's good. Salyphus
But what's different about Logic? They would have to completely rebuild the UI architecture from the ground up for me to be interested. Hopefully they have done that!
