AliAlexandre
What would you guys do in the same situation : we can now find second hand AKAi DR8 HDE recorders for around $600, which is approximately the same price as a brand new Roland VS 840, or Fostex 8 track ministudio. I don't know what to do. My belief is that the AKAI, even if it is is 16 bits only, is according to me more "professional", and the quality of its converters has nothing to envy the newer standalone recorders. What is sounding better and more convenient? I already own a DAW on PC (SONAR), and this would be used on the road, or to record a guitar in studio etc, and then import it back to the PC. Hippie
If all things were equal I'd go with the AKAI. The AKAI seems to be one notch up the ladder from the Roland, provided they were both in good shape, etc. In two days, it won't matter.
vintagevibe
IMO Akai FX are amature toys, Roland FX are very usable and professional sounding. Also you get way more FX choices and also guitar amp simulators.
Curve Dominant
...or you could hunt down a used Roland VS880 for about $600...it's a bangin' box, baby... E :) Eric Vincent (ASCAP) www.curvedominant.com
Dylan
I've seen the Roland VSR-880 (I think that's the model) sell for $500 new recently, so that might be a good option for you as well.
AliAlexandre
Well, it seems that you guys in your majority are going the VS route. OK. I have seen used a VS 890 (latest version) for $820 (in France) which seems to be a good deal indeed. Alex
vtracker
I'd suggest considering an Akai DPS-12. You can find them for around $600, and the extra 4 tracks are worth having.
