Phil W
Two giants of the bass scene have just released bass-led records. Both were raised on the gospel scene and have a range of jazz, soul, funk and hip-hop experience. Derrick is well known for his work with Robert Glasper's ground-breaking hip-hop influenced jazz trio. It also features former Gretchen Parlato bassist Alan Hampton singing on one track (he's now transitioned to singing). Derrick has played with Common (who guests to great effect on one track), Q-Tip, Kanye West, Timbaland, Jill Scott, Mos Def, Musiq Soulchild, Floetry, Gerald Levert etc Sharay is known as one the premier gospel bassists with lots of great records and instructional material on his site. This is his first record that primarily features the bass. Sharay has played with Patti LaBelle, Kirk Franklin, R. Kelly, CeCe Winans, Boys II Men,Ramsey Lewis, Aretha Franklin, and Chaka Khan. Sharay is also well known among bassists for this video: [video:youtube] Derrick Hodge [video:youtube] Sharay Reed [video:youtube] You can get the music at the usual places: CDBaby, itunes, Amazon etc http://music.derrickhodge.com/ http://www.sharayreedcreates.com/ http://philwbass.com
EddiePlaysBass
Damn that first track grooved. Wish I had about 1% of that funky playing in my fingers, I'd be a happy man "I'm a work in progress."
