Guven Ilter
I bought an MX49 last week, after considering all the options I have, including Nord Lead 4 and A1. My justification was more or less easy, my main keyboard is a Motif XF, and I've been using it for recording the tracks for a friend's solo album. I have played around with the sounds and got some splits and layers, usually no more than two, at most three. The sounds of the MX49 are close enough to the Motif to be used on stage, and once I got the performances sorted out in the order of the set list, it turned out to be just what I wanted; a second "crutch" keyboard to play the pads and natural sounds. I agree with most of the criticisms here, that the output is low (I have to use a booster pedal), performance names cannot be readily reached, the keys are a tiny bit narrower than standard, it is too light, but on the plus side, it's got most of the Motif sounds nailed, at least those that I have used with minimum editing. Philip Clark
Pulled the trigger on the BOMB update last night. It's definitely way more usefull of a performance bank for me than the factory defaults. I'd say it's worth the extra $10. Dana.
I agree with most of the criticisms here, that the output is low Apparently this was fixed in an OS update.

Richard Green
A bit late reply- but I just bought the MX61, and love its sound- and likewise downloaded the Best of MOTIF Bank for MX and attempted to load it onto the MX from a USB drive. Word of warning about MX USB device recognition. I have 3 USB flash drives and the MX didn't recognize any of them (all formatted as FAT using Linux), although my W7 and Linux PC's did mount them successfully. I rebooted and reformatted these drives to the same FAT file system using Windows 7- rather than Linux. The MX then recognized the drives. Lesson to be learned: Yamaha needs to make their firmware more robust. I've *never* had an issue with Linux-formatted Windows file systems (e..g., Fat, Fat32, NTFS) being readable on non-Linux devices. Also-not sure, but I think the install of Best of MOTIF Bank overwrites factory performances and is less customized (e.g. percussion).
