Chad Thorne
Does anybody know: If I hook up an adapter that puts out 12v to a pedal that wants 9v, will it harm the pedal?
BillWelcome Home Studios
Radio Shack sells an adapter that has adjustable output voltages. The real important part is the amperage. The supply has to have more to give than the device wants to draw. A couple of volts high, I wouldn't worry about, but as a non-double E, I'll defer to someone who knows better. I've used regulated 13.5 supplies on 12 volt devices with no problems. "I believe that entertainment can aspire to be art, and can become art, but if you set out to make art you're an idiot." howmanychanges
I agree with Bill about the current (Amps) but would advise caution about the voltage! If the adapter doesn't provide enough current the pedal won't work properly, or the adapter will fail. If the adapter provides too much voltage the pedal may fail. As Bill suggested, try Radio Shack to get an adjustable adapter.
