Gabriel E.
I downloaded Bob Will's "Tiffany Sessions Vol.2" from iTunes last week. Prior to this I had never heard of Junior Barnard. Eldon Shamblin is the guitarist most often associated with Wills and he was more of a rhythm and jazz guy. Barnard played on and off with Wills for years and was killed in a car wreck in 1951. He was way, WAY ahead of his time! His solos are aggressive and jump out of the speakers. Reminds me of Eddie Van Halen because of his "seat of the pants" approach. He overdrove his amp and his playing was extremely advanced for the time (1948). When I heard him for the first time the other day I almost drove off the road. Going to get the other volumes. Highly recommended. "You never can vouch for your own consciousness." - Norman Mailer

Bejeeber
Never heard of him. 'Til now that is. He gets a most excellent big confident thing across in this one video I've found of him taking a solo so far: Junior on Youtube from 1946 (63 years ago!!!) Caevan O’Shite
Thanks for the heads-up and the suggested listening, Gabes 'n' Jeebs. I'll hafta get around to that. It's so much better to mine stuff like that to inspire your own muse than whatever semi-generic recent stuff is currently in rotation; that way you sound fresher, even though you're diggin' back to older stuff...
